Wū Xíng — The Five Elements
A lobster takes center stage — its shell painted as a Chinese porcelain vase, carrying the motifs of all five classical elements of Chinese philosophy: a dragon moving through clouds, birds in flight, blossoming flowers and foliage, water alive with fish. Wood, fire, earth, metal, water — the forces believed to govern all living things, from medicine to astronomy, from architecture to the calendar. The lobster rests on a plate fractured and repaired through kintsugi — the Japanese art of mending with gold — its surface echoing the shell's own patterning, as if object and vessel were always meant to reflect one another.
Five elements. One image. Fragility made ornate. Breakage made visible. The everyday transformed into ceremony.
